FOREWORD
Our Graduate School started 22 years ago, and has grown steadily. We now run over
120 programmes in forty-two departments. We have won in the last couple of years
Nigerian Universities Doctoral Thesis Award Scheme (NUDTAS) twice: in Science (Chemistry)
and Social Science (Sociology). A number of our students have benefitted from the
split campus scheme using Fulbright, Third World Academy programmes, and STEP-B
project in the United States , India and China respectively.
We are developing linkages, and so expanding our research expertise beyond our facilities.
Our Central Research Laboratory is expanding, and with the e-library facility our
research capability is greatly enhanced. In a recent development, Exxon-Mobil is
equipping our Geology Department with modern equipment and would also reactivate
the chair of Petroleum Geology. We are working together with University of the West
of Scotland on ICT development. In collaboration with two giant ICT companies AfriHub-Zinox
and Galaxy Backbone, our ICT programme has taken off and our internet services within
the campus is assured.
Our research is needs-driven, and our goal is to extend the frontiers of knowledge
by proffering solutions to both national and local problems. We now have a Directorate
of Research whose responsibility is the coordination of research efforts of both
staff and graduate students.
Calabar provides peaceful and serene environment, designed to boost tourism. Lovers
of Calabar have popularly conceived it to be the acronym for Come And Live And Be
At Rest. In Calabar you have the right academic atmosphere to pursue your studies.
Within the next six months Graduate School will move to its new, state of the art
permanent building. Everything is put in place to make you feel welcome.
