Professor Saturday Job Etuk, MB.BCh; FWACS; FMCOG; FICS was born on 17 June 1959 in Ediene Ikot Ebom, Ekparakwa Clan, Oruk-Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He attended Q.I.C. Primary School, Afiako between 1965 and 1971 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He was the best student in his class and made a Distinction in his FSLC Examination. He proceeded to Holy Family College, Abak for his Secondary education (1973-1978). Here, he maintained his position as the best student and made the best result in his West African School Certificate examination – “Division One with Distinction – 1978”.
He was admitted into the University of Calabar College of Medical Sciences to read Medicine and Surgery in 1979. His performance was outstanding, he made the best result in many of his courses. At graduation in 1985, the College enlisted him for automatic employment to be trained and retrained as a Lecturer in the College.
The then young Dr Etuk returned to the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar after his housemanship training and National Youth Service Corps in 1988. He was sent by the University to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Here he made some ground-breaking progress and carved out a training programme for the department. He made the best result in the West African College of Surgeons Part II (Final) Examination in the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in April 1995. He also made the best Result in Part II (Final) Examination in the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 1997 and won Dr M. A. Majekodunmi prize for the best candidate.
In 2002 Professor Etuk was conferred with an honourary award of the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons.
Professor Etuk has had several additional trainings in Obstetrics and Gynaecology such as: Mini Lap Under local anaesthesia (JUTH – 1991)
• Use of Manual Vacuum Aspiration in the Management of Post-Abortion complications (LUTH 1992).
• Advanced Course in breastfeeding (UNTH – 1995)
• Master Trainers in Breastfeeding counseling (WHO 1995)
Professor Etuk made impressive progress in his academic and professional career.
• Assistant Lecturer/Honorary Senior House Officer – Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, (UCTH) – 1988-1989.

• Lecturer I/Honorary Consultant, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (1995-1998)
• Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (1998-2002)
• Reader/Honorary Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (2002-2005)
• Professor/Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (2005 till date).
Professor Etuk has had several working/administrative experiences in the University.

• Hall Warden for Hall Seven, University of Calabar, Calabar (2006 – till date)
• Deputy Provost, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Calabar 2008-2009
• Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, 2009 – till date.
Professor Etuk has functioned as External Examiner in the College of health Sciences, University of Port Harcourt
and also in the College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi, Anambra State.
He has been a Postgraduate examiner in the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in the
Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the West African College of Surgeons in the Faculty
of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for about 8 years now. He is a member of several Professional bodies such as
• Member, Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria (SOGON).
• Member, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria.
• Member, Nigerian Medical Association.
• Fellow, International College of Surgeons.
• Member, Materno-fetal Association of Nigeria.
Professor Etuk has been involved in several community development projects such as:
• Project coordinator – Training workshop on Post-Abortion Care, Unwanted Pregnancy,
STIs and Family Planning for Private Medical Practitioners in Calabar (3rd October-1st November 2001)
sponsored by Women’s Health and Action Research Centre, Benin City.
• A Resource Person at a Continuing Medical Education Seminar for all
Medical Practitioners in Cross River State Branch, December 2000.
• Director, “Where should women deliver” Programme in Cross River State (2000 – till date.
• Cross River State Co-ordinator of Post-Abortion Care Network (2002-2008).
• President Ekparakwa Club (1999-2006).
• Member, Ekparakwa Clan Development Association.
• Member, Annang Community in Calabar.
• Member, Annang Welfare Association, UCTH Branch.
• Co-ordinator, Medical Outreach for Ediene Ikot Ebom (2006 - till date)
• Service Provider, Pro-Health International (1994 – till date)
Professor Etuk has 63 Publications in both foreign and local International Journals and 4 book chapters with area of interest in Materno-fetal Medicine.
Professor Etuk has supervised 10 Fellows, One Masters and Two Ph.Ds.
Professor Etuk is happily married to Dr (Mrs) Imaobong S. Etuk and they are blessed with 4 children.
His extra-curricular activities include Sports, Traveling and Reading.
