About Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the University usually selected from the rank of distinguished scholars. He has the ultimate management authority of the university and is answerable in the words of Adamolekun (1989) “… for the default of the organisation …no matter by whom such default is committed”. The efficiency and good governance of the university depend very much on the ability of the Vice-Chancellor. The University of Calabar, at the time of production of this brief, is being governed by the 9th Vice-Chancellor, Professor James Epoke in this 29th year of her existence, 1975 to 2011. Although all other officers of the University are answerable to the Vice-Chancellor, policy decisions as well as advice of Council and Senate constitute compelling guides for the Vice-Chancellor’s operations.
