Prof. Dosunmu, Miranda Ibilola Ame
Prof. Dosunmu, Miranda Ibilola Ame was born on the 15th of October, 1946 in Calabar. She attended Cornelia Connelly Secondary School, Uyo where she obtained her West African School Certificate in 1964 and proceeded to Queen’s School, Enugu in 1965 where she obtained the Higher School Certificate in 1966. In 1971, she graduated from the University of Lagos with a Second Class Upper Division (B.Sc. Hons.). She obtained a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Organic Reaction Mechanism from the same University in 1975.
Prof. Dosunmu is the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Calabar. As a professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Calabar, Prof. Dosunmu has contributed greatly to the development of the Department of Chemistry in the University of Calabar. She has several publications to her credit and has held several post within and outside the University, which include: Two time Head, Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Sub-Dean, Faculty of Science, Deputy Director, Student Affairs and member of the following boards: (a) Federal Government Committee: Critique of the Translation of Primary Science Core – Curriculum to Nigerian Languages, 1991; (b) Curriculum Drafting Committee for National Board of Technical Education 1995; (c) Cross River State Women Commission, 1997-1998; (d) UCTH Governing Board 2004-2006 and (e) Vice-Chairman, Yellow Duke Council, 2000 till date; (f) Member, Canaan Ladies Association.
Prof. Dosunmu has had various community awards and is a life member of Chemical Society of Nigeria and Science Association of Nigeria. She is also an Honourary member of Chemical Society of Britain, 1981/1982.
